Bell's Theorem

No local hidden variable theory can reproduce quantum mechanics

Overview

A theorem proving that quantum mechanics cannot be explained by local hidden variables, forcing us to accept non-locality or reject realism.

Bell showed that if particles have predetermined properties (realism) and influences can't travel faster than light (locality), then certain experimental predictions differ from quantum mechanics. Experiments confirm quantum mechanics, so we must abandon locality or realism.
