Water is essential but cheap; diamonds are useless but expensive
Overview
The classical economic puzzle of why water (essential) is cheap while diamonds (non-essential) are expensive.
Water is necessary for life; diamonds are mere ornaments. Yet diamonds command high prices while water is cheap. This seems backwards - shouldn't value reflect importance?
