The systematic tendency to underestimate the time, costs, and risks of future actions while overestimating benefits.
Despite knowing most projects run over time and budget, we consistently predict our own projects will be different. Past experience doesn't prevent optimistic bias. Even experts in planning fall victim to the planning fallacy.
