Euthyphro Dilemma

Is something good because God commands it, or does God command it because it's good?

Overview

A philosophical dilemma about the relationship between morality and divine command.

If good acts are good because God commands them, then morality is arbitrary (God could make murder good). If God commands acts because they're good, then goodness is independent of God, undermining divine moral authority.
